Hey guys! So I'm bringing to you today the base design that I initially came up with on our forums, here for people with more experience to also enjoy/critique. The majority of members in GW3 are TH 6s about to apporach TH 7/are already there, so any input from members of the other clans would be appreciated.
Whilst I am normally a heavy farmer, I thought I'd try my hand at a hybrid base. This is one that is focused on not just protecting your resources, but also on protecting the TH and thus winning you trophies on defense.
(Hopefully this image works!)
Anyway, onto my rationale for the various components of this base:
Clan Castle
This is, in my opinion, one of the best defensive buildings available. Hence I chose for it to be as centralized as possible.
Mortars
What many will argue is that the most efficient placement of mortars is to have them placed in an equilateral triangle. Due to my decision of placing the Town Hall near the center this wasn't possible, but I still kept them roughly triangular. This allows for them to cover each other (ie. bomb troops attacking another mortar) whilst also maximizing their range to protect the rest of the base.
Also, I do not want an enemy to simply deploy archers to destroy them. For this reason they are 'sheltered' by the various archer towers/cannons (I will expand on that later).
Resource Storages
These are the crucial lifeblood of the game, and unless you are seriously (I'm talking about >3000 cups) trophy pushing, you should always aim to give them as much defense as possible. This can be done in a number of ways, and what I chose to do was to preferably have them behind a layer of walls, and with as many possible defensive buildings covering them. Also, any miscellaneous buildings would be used on the outside to push the spawn area out.
Dark Elixir
Due to how hard it is to collect at TH7, I place the highest value on my DE Storage. Hence, it is in the same compartment as the Clan Castle, and is in the most central part of the layout.
Gold / Elixir Storages
First off, please note that Wizard Towers are amazing for protecting storages. I say this because whilst they do not deal out the most amount of damage, they deal out the magical Splash Damage. This is especially effective when they are more centrally located, as it allows for them to destroy large amounts of low-HitPoint troops (eg. Goblins, Barbarians and Archers) when they are clustering around the walls, trying to break through.
Air Defenses
If you are trophy pushing, which is what most people using this base will be doing, and important thing to protect against are our favourite flying beasts, the Dragons. I myself have found how effective they are in the Gold Leagues, so thus you want them to be as protected as possible, and also as close to you Town Hall as possible.
Hidden Teslas
I placed them where they are in order to protect the Air Defense at the bottom, but also to be within range of people attempting to attack my precious TH. They also serve out high damage to people attempting to attack my bottom storages, since these are out of range of my Wizard Towers.
Archer Towers and Cannons
Due to the relatively low number of wall pieces available at TH 7 (175 all up), it is difficult to enclose all of one's buildings. If you are not trying to protect the Town Hall this is more easily done, but in this hybrid base we have to make do.
At the top and bottom, they are serving to provide another 'barrier-layer' of buildings to protect the more crucial ones behind. Please notice how at the wall junctions , they are offset, so that a single wall breaker cannot open up multiple compartments.
Btw, I have just realised that at the top right there is a missing wall piece. Please just take one of the pieces from the mini funnels at the left/right to place it there.
And this brings me to my mini funnels. Since I couldn't fully cover all buildings with walls, I chose to partially enclose the remaining ATs/Cannons, whilst leaving a distinct gap. As you can see, I have laid numerous traps in teh form of Spring Traps and Bombs, which should hopefully help to slow down enemies.
Misc Buildings
I haven't bothered to place the resource collectors (mines/pumps) since I will leave it up to you - their only real purpose is to extend the spawn area.
The army camps and barracks are arranged as such to maximize the spawn area, so I highly recommend you mimic where I placed them in this plan.
Alterations
If Dark Elixir does not hold the same amount of reverence for you, feel free to place the Burger King there to act as another defensive unit. I don't think he works too well at the lower levels, but it's up to each Clasher's personal preference.
Well there you have it my fellow GuerillaWar3-ers, the first Base Design of our forums! Hopefully you guys can understand my somewhat random justifications for certain placements.
Feel free to suggest any changes to this. Also, share your own! I used www.clashofclansbuilder.com to make this design, Print Screened it and then uploaded it to TinyPic.com to share it here.
